INFORMATION BULLETIN: Important information regarding firmware upgrade to rpdu 3.5.7 or rpdu 3.5.8 firmware revisions

Users of Switched Rack power distribution units (AP79XX only) should be warned that when upgrading from an earlier revision of PDU firmware to 3.5.7 or 3.5.8, the outlet users settings will be defaulted.

Update 1/30/09 - APC has released rPDU firmware 3.7.0 or higher which addresses this issue. Any update from an earlier revision to 3.7.0 or higher will keep the outlet user settings intact. Please download the new firmware from http://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm or through ISX Manager and StruxureWare update servers.

Cause

Firmware bug

Resolution

Users of Switched Rack power distribution units (AP79XX only) should be warned that when upgrading from an earlier revision of PDU firmware to 3.5.7 or 3.5.8, the outlet users settings will be defaulted.

When upgrading a Switched Rack PDU unit always back-up the config.ini file first. This file can be downloaded off the PDU using an FTP transfer. It can then be put back on the PDU in similar FTP fashion. When the config.ini file is put back on the PDU, the outlet user settings will be restored.

For detailed instructions on how to transfer the config.ini file, please refer to knowledge base article FA156117.
