Issues:
The unit display may indicate "no UPS communication" after updating the Display/NMC Firmware
Resolution:
We need to power cycle the intelligence modules so they will re-establish communications with the display.
If the UPS is in standby with no AC present
If the UPS is output off with AC present
If the UPS is output on with AC present and the output can be turned off
If the UPS is output on and the output cannot be turned off and the UPS is connected to an SBU
If the output is on and cannot be turned off and no SBU is present:
The Intelligence Module (IM) in control is the one with the green LED on and visible through the front vent holes of the IM.
Usually this is IM1. If IM2 is in control, reverse the IM1 and IM2 terms in the following instructions.

If the UPS is in standby with no AC present
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to off
- Wait 90 seconds
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to on
- Press the front power button for 5 seconds
- Wait for UPS to initialize
- The no UPS communications alarm should no longer be present
If the UPS is output off with AC present
- Disconnect AC from the system. If this cannot be done, proceed directly to the next step
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to off
- Wait 90 seconds
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to on
- Reapply AC to the UPS. If it is already connected, proceed directly to the next step
- Wait for the UPS to initialize
- The no UPS communications alarm should no longer be present
If the UPS is output on with AC present and the output can be turned off
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to off
- Disconnect AC from the UPS. If this cannot be done proceed directly to the next step
- Wait 90 seconds
- Reapply AC to the UPS. If it is already connected, proceed directly to the next step
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to on
- Wait for the UPS to initialize
- The no UPS communications alarm should no longer be present
If the UPS is output on and the output cannot be turned off and the UPS is connected to an SBU
- Switch the SBU to bypass
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to off
- Wait 90 seconds
- Switch the UPS system enable switch to on
- Switch the SBU to maintenance
- Wait for the system to initialize
- The no UPS communications alarm should no longer be present
- Turn the UPS output on via the control menu
- Put the UPS in bypass via the Control menu
- Put the UPS in manual bypass (| position) via the switch on the front of the AC tray.
- Switch the SBU to normal
- Take the UPS out of manual bypass (O position) via the switch on the front of the AC tray
- Take the UPS out of bypass via the control menu
If the output is on and cannot be turned off and no SBU is present:
The Intelligence Module (IM) in control is the one with the green LED on and visible through the front vent holes of the IM.
Usually this is IM1. If IM2 is in control, reverse the IM1 and IM2 terms in the following instructions.
- Place the system in manual bypass(| position) via the switch on the front of the AC tray.
- Disengage the thumbscrew of IM1
- This will transfer control to IM2
- Wait 30 seconds
- Reengage the thumbscrew for IM1
- Wait at least 3 minutes for IM1 to initialize
- There is no indication that IM1 is fully initialized
- Disengage the thumbscrew of IM2
- This will transfer control back to IM1
- The no UPS communications alarm should clear
- Wait 30 seconds
- Reengage the thumbscrew for IM2
- Wait 3 minutes for IM2 to boot up
- Confirm IM2 is ready by checking that the information for both IMs is populated in the about ->UPS->Intelligence Modules.
- Take the system out of manual bypass (O position) via the switch on the front of the AC tray
- Take the system out of bypass via the control menu
