The available license types for EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert software are:
EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert supports different types of licensing methods.
Softkey (software code/key matching unique identifier from the station where the product is installed) is typically used on runtime stations, while Hardkeys (physical dongles) are typically used on development stations for easier license portability.
Buildtime licenses
Buildtime licenses (also known as Development or Engineering licenses) allow the user to develop the application, test it for up to 72 continuous hours and deploy it in a station where the runtime license is installed.
Runtime licenses
Runtime licenses allow the user to execute the application for unlimited time, but it blocks the development tools, so the user cannot create new applications or modify existing ones.
Buildtime and Runtime licenses exist in 4 different sizes to cover different project needs in terms of tags counting:
Thin Client licenses (Runtime add-on licenses)
Thin Client licenses allow users to interact with the graphical interface of the applications (screens) from stations where the runtime components do not need to be installed/stored (product, project/application, nor license).
Any runtime station supports natively one thin client connected to it (delivered by default with a Runtime license). Thin Client licenses allow to increase the number of thin clients concurrently connected to a server. Even though the limit imposed by the licensing system is 1000 concurrent thin clients, physical constraints such as network bandwidth, processing power, and memory may impose lower limits of thin clients per runtime.
Import Wizard licenses (Buildtime add-on licenses)
Import Wizard add-on license enhance the development environment interface, adding converter functionality to it.
With Import Wizard license, applications created with the PanelBuilder™, PanelMate™, and/or FactoryTalk™ software can be converted to EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert.
Update licenses
Each Buildtime and Runtime license for EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert is issued for a particular version (example: v8.0, v8.1, v2020, etc). The license is valid for that particular version, along with all its Service Packs and Patches. For example, a license for EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert v8.1 is valid for all Service Packs and Patches for v8.1 (example: v8.1, v8.1+Service Pack 4, etc). However, this license is not valid for newer versions. Therefore, in order to use this license with a newer version (example: v2020), you must upgrade it to the newer version for the respective license version update fee (lower cost than a “full” license).
Upgrade licenses
In case of project/application evolution leading to a need of more tags, the Buildtime and Runtime Upgrade licenses allow to increase the number of tags of your existing license.
With an Upgrade license, is possible to move from:
Additional notes:
EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert Buildtime and Runtime licenses can be activated to be used in the same machine (even that the most common is to have different development and runtime machines).
EcoStruxure Machine SCADA Expert Buildtime and Runtime licenses (including Update and Upgrade licenses) and also Thin Client licenses are available in paper and digital format (Import Wizard license is just available in paper format).
When ordering licenses in digital format, the activation codes are delivered digitally to an email address (faster delivery versus physical logistical flow used for paper licenses).
