Welcome to the Schneider Electric corporate Website

Overview
Given its size, its potential, and its leading efforts in decarbonizing its economy and scaling up zero-carbon solutions, China is poised to play a prominent role in global decarbonization efforts. China is uniquely positioned to be one of the major laboratories of a 21st century sustainable economy, and this is why its journey is so critical to study.
In this report, we explore two scenarios for the decarbonization of China to 2060 and show that a focus on demand-led transformations of the economy could accelerate the journey of the country toward a zero-carbon economy.
This report realized in partnership between the Schneider Electric Sustainability Research Institute and the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainability from Tsinghua University, offers a new perspective on the Energy Transition in China.

Key findings

  • 01

    55% of the decarbonization effort

Demand-side solutions account for around 55% of the total effort on decarbonization.

  • 02

    2 pillars

Such measures rely on two fundamental pillars: clean electrification and demand-side optimization.

  • 03

    Clean electrification

The sooner clean electrification develops, the less the reliance on natural gas and the lower the recourse to alternative fuels, which will all require additional infrastructure development.

  • 04

    Demand-side optimization

Acting on demand, notably on construction techniques and mobility services, has a major impact on the demand for hard to abate sectors, which in turn makes their decarbonization easier and more economic.
