Hosted at a gala event, following the first day of the aptly named summit TVET College-Industry Partnerships, Sedibeng TVET College was awarded Gold Status based on criteria such as student support and placement, donations, commissioning of equipment and training of staff.
Schneider Electric and the Schneider Electric Foundation has through its French Southern African Schneider Electric Education Centre (F’SASEC) network been involved with Sedibeng TVET College for more than five years. Three practical training laboratories in the field of energy have been established at Sedibeng TVET college, Sebokeng campus through the collaboration. The laboratories provide practical training to students attending and embarking on Report 191 (Nated) and NCV courses to enable practical training in the laboratories for the students.
Speaking at the gala event, the Deputy Minister for the DHET, Mr Buti Manamela acknowledged the tremendous progress that has been made by the TVET sector in the last 15 years, highlighting the quality of education and training as well as increased participation of students across the country.
“We are incredibly proud of this wonderful achievement which is undoubtedly indicative of Sedibeng TVET College’s ongoing commitment to providing quality education in cooperation with its partners to the students from the Vaal Triangle. As one of Sedibeng’s partners we feel privileged to be associated with Dr George Mothapo and his team’s impactful educational programmes,” comments Zanèlle Dalglish, Global Leader; Training & Education Affairs at Schneider Electric.
“Building a sound partnership with business and industry is key to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the College. As the college, we appreciate the partnership we have with Schneider Electric. The college is able to provide teaching and learning through the support we receive. The recognition of the department is encouraging all of us to do more,” says Dr George Mothapo, principal, Sedibeng TVET College.
The F’SASEC network spans six prominent South African tertiary education providers: Vaal University of Technology (VUT), University of Johannesburg (UJ), Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Sedibeng TVET College, College of Cape Town (CCT) and Eastcape Midlands College (EMC). The network is actively expanding and also reaches beyond South Africa’s borders to include partnerships with Don Bosco in Mozambique and Malawi.
