Workaround for problem adding a secondary language to EGX300

Goals and Symptoms

After following the procedure "EGX300 Secondary Language Support.doc" but fail with following error in choosing new language (no new language would be shown even after choosing new language):
IE 7.0 -

IE 6.0 -

Causes and Fixes

Microsoft Excel saves csv files in UTF-8 format which apparently does not not work. Even saving CSVs from Excel with web option of encoding results in UTF-8 encoding. This does not appear to be related to version of Excel:

WORKAROUND

Available workaround is to use notepad instead. Here is an example with Chinese as the target language:

  1. Follow "EGX300 Secondary Language Support.doc" to Step 3 and remove all language except English
  2. Save this csv and then open it by using notepad
  3. Replace all terms to local language
  4. Save the csv in notepad with following options:
    1. File name = languages_secondary.csv
    2. Save as type = All Files
    3. Encoding = UTF-8
  5. By then, after downloading to EGX300 using FTP, you would be allowed to choose the new language as shown below:
