How to expose measurements to an OPC client for a third party device type in Power Monitoring Expert (PME)?

Issue
Measurements for device types that are not native to PME will not be updated when "Update OPC" is selected in Management Console.

Environment
PME server, OPC client

Cause
When "Update OPC" is selected in Management Console, the system looks at the DefaultMeasurements.xml file located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\system\IONServices and updates the tags for all of the device types listed in the file. Third-party device types are not included in the file and must be defined in a separate file.

Resolution
There is a folder in the file path mentioned above called DefaultMeasurementsExt that contains .xml files for each third-party device type needed to be exposed to the OPC client. To generate an .xml file for your third-party device type, follow the steps below.

For PME 9.0 or newer
  1. Open the Management Console and navigate to Tools > System > Device Type Editor.
  2. Open the tool, then select File > Open, and choose the .ion file for the device type that needs to be exposed to the OPC client.
  3. Once the file opens, hit Tools > Expose OPC Measurements.
  4. In the pop-up window, move the desired measurements needed for the OPC client over to the right side where it says "Selected". If the top-level device top is highlighted, all measurements will move to the right side.
  5. Hit Save and it will prompt you to save a .xml file named DefaultMeasurements_<device type>.xml. Make sure this file is saved in the following path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\system\IONServices\DefaultMeasurementsExt.
  6. Close the Device Type Editor, and hit "Update OPC" in the Management Console under Tools > System. The system will recognize the custom file with the third-party device type tags defined, and the tags will be updated along with the default device types in the other file.
For older versions of PME (8.x, 7.2.x)
  1. Open the Management Console and navigate to Tools > System > Modbus Device Importer.
  2. Open the tool, then select File > Open, and choose the .ion file for the device type that needs to be exposed to the OPC client.
  3. On the left side of the screen, there will be a list of Managers that can be expanded into Modules, and the Modules can be expanded to show each Register. Expand the Managers to display the Modules. Right-click on a Module that contains Registers you would like exposed to the OPC client. Click "OPC..." and the OPC Server Assistant will appear.
  4. Select the boxes beside each measurement you want to expose to the OPC client. Clear the boxes beside each measurement you do not want to expose. Click File > Export and then hit Yes to save.
  5. Close the Modbus Device Importer, and hit "Update OPC" in the Management Console under Tools > System.
