About the challenge

The UAE Youth Green Challenge, in partnership with Arab Youth Center, aims to engage college students in innovative thinking and problem- solving to address the pressing issue of reducing carbon emissions in the built environment.

The competition will provide a platform for students to develop creative and sustainable solutions for decarbonizing buildings, thereby contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.

The Schneider Electric and Arab Youth Center are rewarding young innovators with a cash prize, an internship opportunity, a chance to showcase their winning concept and more opportunities.

The winning team will also get an official certificate, reference letter, and a special trophy to honor their achievement.

Our Partner

The Arab Youth Center (AYC) was established to realize the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, to empower young Arabs and address their needs.

The Center offers a unique platform to develop youth capabilities and support innovation and creativity among youth. AYC implements purposeful initiatives across diverse sectors, in addition, it conducts research on young Arabs to help decision-makers shape policies that enable their progress.

Challenge Objectives

Foster awareness and understanding of the environmental impact of buildings and the urgent need to decarbonize them.

Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among students from various academic backgrounds.

Recognize outstanding ideas and projects that have the potential for real-world implementation and impact.

Encourage students to explore and apply innovative technologies, designs, and strategies for reducing carbon emissions in buildings.

Challenge Criteria

Innovation and Creativity

Innovations encompass new technologies, designs, materials, or strategies with the power to greatly lower carbon emissions in buildings.

Environmental Impact

Considering energy efficiency, integration of renewable energy, sustainable materials, waste reduction, and lifecycle analysis.

Feasibility and Scalability

Include cost-effectiveness, technical feasibility, scalability across building types/sizes, and ease of adoption will be considered.

Potential for Implementation

Considering regulatory adherence, market readiness, stakeholder involvement, and potential implementation challenges.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Projects seamlessly uniting expertise from engineering, architecture, environmental sciences and business.

Communication and Presentation

Convey complex concepts in a concise and engaging manner while showcasing the potential impact of the proposed solutions.

The Path to a Sustainable Future

Registration

Eligible students from UAE universities may submit their entries until November 12th, 2023.

Filtration

The Schneider Sustainability team will examine all submissions and choose the top 6 teams based on their innovative and sustainable solutions from November 13th to November 15th.

Mentorship

From November 17th to December 1st, the selected teams will receive mentorship from Schneider Electric to refine their projects and improve their presentations through valuable feedback.

Presentation

On December 5th, the top 6 teams will present their final pitches to a judging panel who will choose the best solution for the grand prize.

Win Big

The winning team will receive a cash prize along with an internship opportunity with Schneider Electric, among other benefits that encourage growth and sustainable initiatives.
