Job Description
Control & Signalling (C&S) is an activity belonging to Industry/ Industrial Controls & Drives.
The C&S portfolio is composed of:
- Electromechanical control panel elements (push buttons, light indicators, joysticks, pendant stations…)
- Electronics control panel elements (wireless and battery less push buttons, biometric switch)
- Industrial remote-control solutions (wireless hoisting remote control)
- Wireless Sensors ecosystem
- Electromechanical industrial relays
- Electronics industrial relays
- Tower lights, beacons and sound signalling systems
With about 500 M€ turnover, C&S is at present N1 worldwide leader on control panel elements and ambitions to become N1 worldwide leader on relays and signalling systems.
With the rise of the connected industry, or Industry 4.0, the renewal of the Line of Business’s connected gateways, and wireless ecosystem is a strategic key point for the coming years. Cybersecurity for our upcoming projects is a pillar for success, aligned with Schneider Electric’s strategy to secure products and solutions by design.
C&S team members are in Singapore and Angouleme (south-west of France), under a common management team.
As a Principal Architect within the R&D department of the Control & Signalling Line of Business, you will play a critical role in contributing to the development of features, know-how, and processes for the projects. You will actively participate in the different stages of product and offer architecture definition, working closely with cross-functional teams.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading the product architecture, as well as a small firmware and hardware development team. You will be responsible for designing and documenting the components, as well as organizing their development and following up with the design project leader to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. Your expertise in system architecture design and embedded product development will be instrumental in driving innovation and success in our products.
- Lead the international development team in defining the system architecture and requirements for industrial automation products, ensuring that they meet customer requirements and industry standards.
- Collaborate with marketing and engineering teams to lead and/or be involved in various parts of the product life cycle, including innovation, development, and industrialization phases.
- Analyse customer/marketing requirements and provide technical guidance to ensure that the product meets or exceeds expectations.
- Define a system architecture strategy that satisfies system requirements, while meeting quality, functional safety, security, and cost targets.
- Document the system architecture using formal description, ensuring that it is clear and accessible to all relevant stakeholders.
- Help with the technical ramp-up and understanding of complex modules, providing guidance and support to the engineering team as needed.
- Establish verification criteria to ensure that key requirements and critical timing aspects can be validated within the agreed constraints of the system architecture.
- Work collaboratively with the engineering team to help resolve technical problems and ensure the successful completion of the project.
- Train and coach engineering team members on technical questions, ensuring that they have the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to the project's success.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and trends in functional safety and industrial automation systems, and apply this knowledge to the development of the product.
- Master's or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- 10+ years of experience in embedded product design and development, with a focus on industrial automation and control.
- Strong knowledge and experience in embedded system architecture design and development processes.
- 5+ years of experience in functional safety engineering, including knowledge of safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62061, and ISO 13849.
- Expertise in areas such as embedded systems, control systems, and safety systems, with experience leading technical teams in these areas.
- Proven track record of successfully managing cross-functional teams comprising of engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver complex projects.
- Experience in system requirement management and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills in a multi-site international setup, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and business partners.
- Certification in Functional Safety, such as TÜV Functional Safety Engineer, will be highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience or knowledge in 5G or WiFi technologies, as well as expertise in safe industrial communication protocols such as CIP Safety, PROFIsafe, FSoE, etc. will be considered an added advantage.
- Proven experience in using third-party technologies to accelerate product engineering will be a valuable asset.
- Experience in collaborating with third-party engineering partners and managing such relationships will be an added advantage.
